Taormina private walking tour – Destination of the Grand Tour travelers since the middle of the 19th century, Taormina is still nowadays one of the most favorite goals for thousands of tourists coming to Sicily every year from all over the world.

For sure one of the reasons of its popularity is its charming atmosphere that allured in the past personalities such as Goethe, Oscar Wilde, T.H. Lawrence, Greta Garbo, Elizabeth Taylor, Hemingway, Robert De Niro, Woody Allen.

Taormina private tour at a glance

The focal point of our Taormina private tour will be the Ancient Theatre, built by the Greeks in the 3rd century BC. The theatre was enlarged by the Romans about 600 years later and it is second, in terms of importance and size, only to the one of Syracuse. From here you can enjoy a breathtaking view over the town and the Naxos Bay. In around 2 hours you will discover the most important treasures of the town, the ancient theatre, the Odeon, the Corvaja Palace, the church of Santa Caterina, Corso Umberto, and Palace Dukes of Santo Stefano among the others.
You will be told in a relaxed and easy going way the many interesting and curious stories related to the ancient and recent past of this facinating little town and you will enjoy stunning views that will indelibly remain in your memory.

TAORMINA it is one of Italy’s most famous tourist resorts; it lays 205mt above the Ionian sea, on the Mount Tauro overlooking two big bays.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the town became one of the most popular winter resorts of the Mediterranean sea and a colony for aristocracy, bankers, artists, writers and intellectuals. D.H. Lawrence stayed here from 1920 to 1922, and in Taormina he composed some of his poems, novels, short stories and essays.

Founded in 358 BC by Greeks coming from the destroyed Naxos, which is just a couple of kilometers down at the coast, Taormina seemed to be a perfect location to avoid to be besieged again and since then it enjoyed also a great prosperity thanks to its strategic position.

Excellent start to our time in Taormina

What a wonderful way to start off our stay in Taormina! Chiara was an expert on all Sicilian topics and told us stories and oriented us to the place and the history better than we could have ever imagined. She met us at our hotel, patiently waited while we got situated, and then guided us on a lovely walk through the town to a superb arancini local spot where we bought some food and enjoyed a glass of wine. We ended the night with the Sicilian sorbet “granita.” A truly magical evening- highly recommend taking a tour with her! Taormina is a gem with Jerry’s tour!

Jerry was amazing! Taormina was his native city which he loves and knows well. In fact, he knew everyone; we called him “the mayor”! Jerry was passionate and knowledgeable about the light, history, architecture and spirit of Taormina. He enjoyed photography and window shopping with us. He was funny and the time went quickly. 2-3 hours was perfect. He introduced us to an amazing restaurant, Babilonia, which was our best meal in Sicily. A tour with Jerry is a must! Unforgettable

Excellent and very professional tour with an easy going fun guide

Chiara is a very knowledgeable tour guide who kept us fascinated with her understanding of the history and folklore of Taormina. We have had many private tours in our travels but Chiara may have been the best. She is funny and witty while giving you loads of information about Taormina and Sicily . She will stroll thru the gardens and streets and point out many variety of flowers and trees. She made out trip to Taormina much more interesting and it was a very worthwhile experience. Disappointed

Top tour

Our guide Chairo was an amazing guide who provided a first class tour. Communication prior was great. Chairo was very knowledgeable and was able to provide excellent history, local information as well as interested facts about Sicily and beautiful taormina. Chiara is amazing!

Not exactly a trip but just a short message to highlight how helpful Chiara has been. We were due to stay at a local hotel in Taormina and had suspicions it had actually closed. We couldn't get in contact with the hotel at all. My wife found the number for the Taormina Tourist Service and we spoke with Chiara who went out of her way to find out and eventually confirm this was the case. Not only that but Chiara also followed this up with alternative options we could use. All I can say is Chiara is a star, to go into this much effort to help us she has been amazing. Thank you! A walk back through time to ancient life in Taormina

Chiara made our visit so fun!

We just got back from our vacation in Italy. We used Chiara for two days while we were in Taormina. She was very helpful even before we booked with her. The hotel was still closed for the season and she gave me lots of dinner suggestions. She was very prompt both days when she picked us up. Chiara’S English is very good. She did an amazing tour for the two days. Showed us so many things that we would of never saw on our own. It was so amazing. I will def use her again next time visiting. The best way to discover Taormina

Ciara was a first rate guide, showing us a range of sights in Taormina and tailoring her tour to our interests. So we got a tour of he town itself, with historical facts and light hearted anecdotes and myths, followed by a visit to the ancient Greco Roman theatre. Chiara is a fabulous tour guide.

Chiara took 4 of us to Taormina and Castelmora including the tour of the Ancient Greek/Roman theatre in Taormina. She is do friendly and knowledgeable. She is also flexible! We found out the evening before that due to weather we could not dock at our scheduled port in Messina. She and her driver drove over 100 kilometers to pick us up in Syracuse. Don’t leave Taormina without walking with Chiara

Fantastic way to see Taormina!

Chiara was one of the most knowledgeable guides we’ve had out of all the tours we’ve taken around the world. We love having a private guide when we visit a new city, rather than being part of a larger group. Chiara offers friendly and personalized service. A Fascinating Tour

My wife and I just completed a thorough and informative tour with Chiara. We were visiting from Toronto, Canada and had never been to Taormina before. Chiara walked us through some of the main highlights of the town, including a memorable trip around the Greek Theatre. She also showed us some areas that we never would have seen ordinarily, and told us a great deal about the culture and history in Sicily. Wonderful half day tour with Chiara

I liaised with Chiara’s via email and she was efficient and easy to deal with. Chiara met us promptly on a Sunday morning at our hotel and we set off for our 3 hour walking tour of Taormina, including the Teatro Greco. Chiara is an experienced guide and her knowledge of the history of Taormina and Sicily is incredible. We feel privileged we had the opportunity to have her share this with us. Personable and clearly passionate about her work, we really enjoyed Chiara’s company. She also knows where the best Cannoli in town are to be found and gave us a fantastic restaurant recommendation for dinner that night! Taormina’s History Comes Alive

Chiara met my husband and I at our hotel and we set off from there to the Botanical Garden. She not only knows history but she knows plants! We walked to the Greek Theater and learned more from her along the way about art, more plants, the symbol of Sicily, etc. Our time at the theater was very interesting because she included information about what types of performances took place and how the actors dressed. We learned how the Romans changed the structure and tested the sound magnification of round and pointed recesses. All along the way she pointed out beautiful views. We had a three hour tour so we also walked the whole Corso learning about different eras from the Inquisition to WWII. She even gave us a great suggestion for dinner. Wonderful WalkingTour

If you're looking for an excellent walking tour of Taormina, look no further. My husband and I, with two others from our cruise ship, enjoyed a 2-hour tour with Chiara this past July. Planning was easily accomplished beforehand, via email, we connected, without problem, at our meeting point and found Chiara's tour commentary both knowledgable and entertaining. We especially admired the way Chiara seemed to magically position us to avoid lines and crowds. (No small miracle, during the height of tourist season, with two cruise ships in town!) Chiara was beyond gracious, offering us tips on where to purchase local items, such as leather purses ... and even rounded up a taxi to take us back to the ship once our group's shopping was completed. Couldn't have been better

Chiara Rozzi provided everything we could have wanted during the two full days we spent with her. She showed us what we asked to see and everything we didn't know we wanted to see. She was warm, entertaining, so knowledgeable, and generous with her time. She went out of her way to make us comfortable and to make us feel like old friends. She did an amazing job making sure my vegan diet was accommodated (and I had an amazing meal I'm certain I wouldn't have had without her) and to make sure my 80-year-old mother didn't need to walk more than necessary but was still able to enjoy the most possible. Excellent walking tour

Great tour with Chiara. She is extremely knowledgeable about the history of the town both ancient and modern. We had booked for two hours but she ended up taking us round for three hours - I think because she was just so enthusiastic about sharing her knowledge with us. Thoroughly recommended. colourful surroundings

just had a taste of taormina, nice place , flowers and plants everywhere . nice views from the square. restaurants and cafeterias. it is a place that you have to visit and have a relaxing time in it, i didnt have so much time to spend because i took it as an excursion and on the same day i visited mount etna as well. so in the near future i do my best to book two to three days holiday.
